Happy Feast of the Holy Guardian Angels!

If the Feast of the Archangels Michael, Gabriel, and Raphael is one of my favorite days of celebration in the Catholic Church, I would be remiss in not mentioning, acknowledging, or loving the Feast of the Holy Guardian Angels!  I absolutely love talking about the Guardian Angels to my children, and I have often thought about my previous musings regarding our Guardian Angels being thanked so inadequately by so many of us.

Last weekend, as our Catholic community celebrated the Feast of the Archangels, our chaplain spoke about angels, encouraging us to consistently prioritize prayer in thanksgiving to God – for our Guardian Angels.  It is by His grace alone that we have been given a guardian to watch over, guide us, and assist us.

The chaplain emphasized that our Guardian Angels are not our friends!  They possess attributes that resemble friendship, and they are social creatures; however, they can also withdraw their allegiance toward us if God deems it an appropriate action to continue working toward our soul’s sanctification!

The more I reflect on the chaplain’s words and message, the more I realize just how much we are loved by God.  He has given all of us free will – free will to choose to love Him, and follow His Divine Son.

In an effort to assist us in choosing the path of salvation, he bestowed upon each and every single one of us, at the moment of conception, a celestial being from His kingdom!

These celestial beings are here to watch over us, and to be of assistance, regardless of whether or not we choose to ask.

As a mama, knowing my children have an ally in this world, especially during times I cannot be with them, I am provided with an extra layer of comfort.

A beautiful prayer card and picture given to us by a family friend, in celebration of the birth of our second child.  This is displayed in the kids’ room, and the prayer is said nightly.

I have faith my children’s Guardian Angels will keep a protective eye over my children.

I have faith my children’s Guardian Angels will assist my children whenever they are called upon to do so.

I have faith that my children’s Guardian Angels will carry out their mission, as designated and directed by Our Creator.

Finally, I pray that my family and I make choices worthy of the protection and allegiance of our Guardian Angels.  Furthermore, I really fervently pray that God doesn’t choose to sanctify me by withdrawing the protection of my Guardian Angel!

Guardian Angel Prayer

Angel of God, my guardian dear.  To whom God’s love commits me here, ever this day, be at my side.  To light and guard, to rule and guide.  Amen.

  1. I read this entry earlier this morning, and something has bothered me all day. Why can’t our guardian angel be our friend, our sounding board, our confidant? That IS what a friend is.

    1. It isn’t there to be our friend – it can take on traits that resemble friendship (such as being our sounding board, our confidant, etc.), but ultimately, its allegiance is to God alone. And, because they are divine creatures and entities, their ability to function is at a significantly higher capacity than our mere mortal brains can understand!
